Ring of Fire

A beautiful drive from Seward to Homer. Along the way we passed Tern Lake where all sorts of seabirds nest. There are gulls, swans, loons and Arctic terns. We went by Cooper Landing and Russian River which are both big fishing sites and then visited the Land of Living Trees. On past trips this had been a fun place to visit with lots of wood carvers working, but now it is almost deserted. Jeff and Ziggy met a bear and I visited my old friend, the bear, and sat in the big chair looking like Edith Ann. The "big" city along the way is Soldotna and we stopped at the visitor center and walked down to the river to watch fisherman cast for salmon. Continued on passing gorgeous views. This area is part of the Ring of Fire as there are at least three active volcanoes with the last eruption in 2008. Mt. Iliamna and Mt. Redoubt are over 10,000 feet. Finally got to the overlook at Homer and the "Spit." Three days ahead to enjoy this lovely place.
