Loch Lomond

The lovely, quirky town of Talkeetna is the take off spot for climbers of Mt. Denali and other peaks in this area. They register at the ranger station and report back after their climb. We saw a movie at the station showing conditions for the climbers and what the base camps look like. Right now there are 106 climbers on Denali and this year only 55% have reached the summit. Sadly there is a cemetery in town which includes a climber's memorial. There are plaques with lists of those who lost their lives pursuing their dream of climbing Denali or nearby peaks. It is a somber reminder that this is a very dangerous pursuit.
