Sweet Baby James

Aha - Finally got these fine photos of James Taylor and Carole King to upload. A fantastic concert!

You've Got a Friend

Monday night and we have tickets to see James Taylor and Carole King at the arena in Wilkes-Barre. It is a high point of the summer and the concert is great. The ride takes a little more than an hour and we stopped at the Mohegan Sun Casino to play the slot machines and ate dinner at the buffet. They are adding table games next month and there are several restaurants. Our luck is that Monday nights are BOGO for the buffet so we had a sumptuous meal for $16.

Anyway the concert was fabulous and we sang along to all the songs we know and love.

Useful!

I think today was the first time we really felt useful around here.

We were at the bike compound at 8:30 AM to get ready to open up at 9:00. When our co-worker showed up we popped over to the main pavilion to run the Dragon Wagon ride. Then back to the bike pavilion for a hot day of renting bikes and boats. We ran into a family of guests we had met last year at Lake George. Evidently they come to both places each year because they live halfway between. They were flattered that I remembered them. They knew we looked familiar but couldn't place us. They remembered me from the river tubing. Off at 3:00 and I came home to crash in the A/C.

At 6:30 we were back for the evening Dragon Wagon ride and then immediately over to Candy Bar Bingo. They let me call one of the games (I think I was in training.) and we were runners and checkers for the other games.

Immediately after that we had our first karaoke night with our brand-new equipment. I was the DJ and Judy was the organizer. It was a pretty big success for a first shot. The highlight of the evening was a 4-year old who sang something about a bunny and would not leave the stage. He just kept repeating it over and over until Judy gently stopped him. The crowd was hysterical. Then there was the boy who got up and decided to sing a bizarre version of "Adon Olam." Don't ask! We also had a couple of guests with great voices - and others with great enthusiasm - that made it fun.

Back home at 10:30 PM for the conclusion of a very long - but productive - day.

Another long one tomorrow if the weather holds. Same early schedule. Then our campfire/sing-along after the evening Dragon Wagon ride. Beats the heck out of being bored!

Old Friends

It is so wonderful to see good friends. Judy & Sam Emmett stopped in Harrisburg on their travels and we drove down to see them and their daughter Debbie and grandson Craig. We had breakfast at a real diner and it was delicious! Such a nice break to have real conversation with people you love. Afterwards Jeff and I visited the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg. It is quite a scholarly presentation of the war with the causes and politics explained and in depth looks at the important battles and famous people involved.

Hangin' in There

Bike Week is half over. We are pretty much working the front gate, checking IDs and selling wristbands. We were specifically told that we could participate in the activities as much or as little as we want. If we stay out of the entertainment tent and the swimming pool it's pretty much just another week, albeit noisier.

The following weekend is Father's Day, and we should start to get into the regular summer schedule. Today we are getting DirecTV, so that problem will be solved. We are just going to have to live with having a very poor Internet connection. The best connection we have is using my cell phone as a wireless modem.

Last week we went to Penn's Cave where we toured underground caverns in a boat. This Thursday we are meeting friends Judy and Sam Emmett in Harrisburg for lunch.

So the jury's still out, but we are making do with what we have.

Bike Week is Coming

The fun starts tomorrow, but the changes are already up around the campground. Our new street signs are not exactly geared toward the young family.

Alley Oop - Take Two

Alley Oop

A day trip to Penn's Cave which is a 45 minute drive from the campground. This is an impressive cave, cool and toured by boat. The entire cave floor is water and lots of interesting formations.
