Ol' Man River

Tote that barge... One of the competitions was from a Freight Dog Association and some dogs can pull over 1500 pounds. We saw mostly St. Bernards and one comical Rottweiler. The guy in the top photo was very strong and well trained. The other photos are a younger female and she did well and then simply said, "Enough!" The dogs wore a special harness and pulled a wagon with concrete bricks. After each turn they slurped lots of water and were given lots of loving by their handlers. At first I thought it kind of cruel, but then saw that the dogs loved it. It's almost like a weight lifting competition for humans without all the body oil and grunting.
