Rhapsody in the Rain
We got up to a pleasant day and hung around the campground for a while. We pulled out around 9:30 and headed north. We decided that we couldn't see much more around Traverse City so we selected a scenic drive along Lake Michigan. We stopped at a bakery/orchard where the saleslady told us they had a bad hail storm that morning. Across the street was this tiny church. As we drove on the radio told us to expect more bad thunderstorms and we had two. Luckily we were in safe parking lots for the storms and hail. Our first stop was at Castle Farms, a mansion built in 1918 by Albert Loeb, president of Sears Roebuck. After waiting out the storm we weren't in the mood to tour so we drove on passing the 45 degree latitude which is equidistant from the equator and the north pole. We stopped for lunch at a local place and and just finished when the skies opened again Finally it was over and we headed to the Mackinac Bridge which links the lower and upper peninsulas of Michigan. The bridge is five miles long and we were so happy to finally arrive in the upper peninsula.
