The Long and Winding Road

Another magnificent day and enjoyed sleeping late and eggs for breakfast. We decided to take a ride to the other side of Volcan Baru, our volcano. Winding roads, steep grades, miles of orange trees and riots of purple and red bougainvilleas along the side of the narrow road led us to the town of Volcan.

Not much there except a few blocks of stores and other businesses. We found a very nice restaurant for lunch and a Romero supermarket for a few items.

Decided to turn around and head back and that was a good choice. Just before we got home a torrential storm poured rain on us. We got home safely and the rains stopped within a half hour. Saw only a few birds along the road including a perched Black Vulture and a Swallow Tail Kite soaring overhead. Some common birds sitting on phone wires.

We passed a picturesque walking bridge, but as I approached it a sign warned that it is unsafe.

Brian and I went out for a Peruvian dinner. We started with a seafood ceviche and I  was very adventuresome and ate squid and octopus. Then I had an incredible salmon dish topped with tiny shrimp and a cheesy sauce. Brian had a traditional Peruvian dish of beef sauteed with vegetables and fries with rice.
