We desperately needed exercise so we rented bicycles and drove the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail which is a paved path starting in downtown Anchorage. It is very scenic and sometimes hilly and we passed parks and went through railroad tunnels. Along the way we visited Earthquake Park and an area reputed for bird watching. There were no birds there, but we were able to stand directly underneath the airplanes as they were about to land at the aiport. It was noisy, but exhilarating.
One very steep hill made us walk the bikes and we noticed a young moose busily munching on some leaves. He checked us out and realized that we were only tourists so he went about his business and gave us a great photo op. There was a bald eagle sitting in a nearby tree and that was exciting too.
Later we joined a group at a local pizza restaurant. The pies were very good considering where we were.
