The Long and Winding Road

We went on a bus ride today in Denali Park. We had avoided this trip last time we were here and had heard horror stories about the park road. Well we did it today and I have mixed feelings about it. The bad news is our bus left at 6:30 am so we had to get up very early. The good news is that sunrise is about 4am so it is light and bright making early rising a little easier.

More bad news that it was cloudy and rainy most of the morning and the road is muddy and at points the windows were splattered with mud with no vision for us. Good news is that the scenery takes your breath away even when Mt. McKinley is completely socked in with clouds.

Bad news is that our bus was a school bus and the road was bumpy and winding. Good news is that the bus had individual padded seats that were comfortable for taking a nap. Bad news that we saw no bears, good news is that we saw moose, caribou, fox, Dall Sheep, ptarmigan and snowshoe hares.

In the end I'd recommend this trip, but doubt that I will do it again. We were on an 8 hour round trip and that is just too much for me. We did see another movie at the Wilderness Center and then back to the RV for more napping and dinner.

After we slept and ate we took Ziggy on a walk along the Nenana River and watched the rushing waters that are all run off from glaciers.
