Friends indeed

Sometimes the best thing about friends is the days when you sit around with them doing nothing. Yesterday was such a day.

We met Marty & Allan in 1973 & 1974 respectively and have been friends since. Even since they moved to San Diego 12 or so years ago we have kept in touch and remained friends.

So yesterday we just sat around their house, playing games and enjoying that casual kind of time that is so rare in a long-distance friendship. This is one of the true blessings of taking a trip such as this.

Marty and Allan live in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego. Within a few miles of there are areas that include a major downtown city, desert, fancy seaside areas, and a Marine Corp Air Station (Miramar - formerly the home to Top Gun).

Their son, John, and his family live nearby in a beautiful home. We have known John since he was 14 years old, so we get a real kick out of seeing his family.

California is - well - California. The first gas prices we saw here were $3.39.9 for regular! Fortunately (?!?) we can probably find it for only(?) $3.20.9. Lots of cars. Lots of expensive cars. And we haven't even been to LA yet!

Tomorrow it's on to LA where we will just have to suffer with our beachfront campsite in Malibu.

BTW, today is Rick's birthday. Happy Birthday! It's nice having someone who is always 10 years older than you.
