California Dreaming

Saturday night and I'm writing from San Diego. We awoke in Vegas to another hot, sunny day. The mechanics showed up early to put in our new air conditioning and all went well. I used the time to take a bicycle ride around the grounds and then we packed up and left.

There wasn't much pretty scenery today and we started to notice smog clouding the distant mountains. We stopped for lunch at Peggy Sue's Diner near Barstow, CA and they had good lemon meringue pie and lots of Hollywood memorabilia.

I slept much of the afternoon while Jeff drove. We arrived at the home of Marty & Allan Salkin in San Diego around 5pm. Marty & Allan are our dearest friends who left the Lawrenceville/Princeton area to move west 11 years ago. We originally met them through community theatre and miss having them near. They have a lovely home high in the hills and have made us (and Ziggy) very welcome.

Marty and I were showing Ziggy the fenced yard when she caught sight of the cute little fish pond and fountain in the corner. Before we could blink she climbed into the water much to the amazement of the resident goldfish. She literally filled up the entire pond and seemed very pleased with herself. We were able to coax her out and the fish looked relieved.

Later we had a delicious home cooked meal with Marty & Allan and their children John & Sylvia and grandsons Willy & Robby. After some good conversation we are off to sleep and dream about the next few days.

I guess Ziggy has finally figured out she's a water dog!
