The Rain in Spain Stays Mainly on the Plain

Did anyone think that would not be a title during this trip? We set the alarm for 8 am and it is still raining and gloomy outside. This is our last day in Barcelona and I still have two things on my must see list. So we got up, donned our rain gear and took a taxi to the Palau Musica Catalana. This had been recommended by my friend Karen and she was right, a must see.

The concert hall is a beautiful building that mixes music, architecture and nature. The common areas are decorated beautifully and roses are a theme throughout the building. First we saw a movie in a chamber music hall and then proceeded up the grand staircase to the main auditorium which seats 2138. It is a beautiful space and adorned with statues, roses, columns and a magnificent glass chandelier weighing over 2,000 pounds featuring a choir singing around the sun. Our guide explained the symbolism of the decor including the 18 muses surrounding the stage. So happy we got to see this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
