It's Tuesday so we are off and ready for adventure. We did our grocery shopping last night and combined it with dinner at the Log Jam in Lake George which is one of our favorite restaurants. Today we slept late and then wiggled into our bathing suits and set off. We drove north to the cute town of Keeseville where we had breakfast/lunch at McClellan's Family Restaurant. Quite a find as Jeff enjoyed a turkey club on rye with real turkey, and I had eggs and pancakes that hit the spot. We then drove a short distance to Ausable Chasm which is the best tourist attraction in the northern Adirondacks. We have been here once or twice before, but much of it has been rebuilt since floods in 1996 and Irene in 2011 had knocked down bridges and destroyed many of the paths. We took the intermediate route which took us along the chasm and the not so roaring river. We were told that this is the lowest water level in years. The rock formations are beautiful and even though we had to climb some steps we enjoyed the walk. At the end we opted to go tubing on their mile course and had to wait a long time, almost an hour, to get into the water. Watching those before us was a treat. The tubers stood with their tubes held against their rears at the edge of a rock and then dropped backwards about three feet into the water. One young couple were Orthodox Jews and she was in a long black skirt and a shaydel. Everyone oohed as she climbed down a ladder and into her tube along with her husband who was in long black pants and a long sleeved white shirt with tsit tsit and payess. He did the drop method as did we when it was our turn. The river was calm and not flowing too much until we came to a large rapids. A guide sent you through and failed to mention the sharp rocks that were not deeply submerged. Both Jeff and I hit hard and will have bruises for a while to remember the trip. At the end we passed under zip lines and the last photo shows one poor soul stuck out over the trees. He/she did manage to manually pull himself to the other side and safety. All in all a fun day with great, sunny weather.
