County and state fairs pop up across the U.S. in August.Today we visited the Essex County Fair which is just north of Hudson County, where we are staying. It is an agricultural fair and lots of 4-H exhibits. First we visited the animals and just love the pretty faces on the cows. The second photo is a Jacob Sheep in the petting zoo. Take a close look as he has four horns and the breed can even have six horns. They also had alpacas, a miniature donkey and a camel. In the main building they had many agricultural displays and we were asked to judge one category. We took our job very seriously and hope we helped. We forgot to check back later to see the blue ribbon presentation. We missed the pig races, but did visit the horse stables. This beautiful horse had one blue eye and one brown eye. The last photo is a great horned owl who was on display. What a magnificent creature!
We had a good time and ate some bad, fair food. It was a hot day and we stayed longer than we had planned. The next post will be the roll over event we watched.
