Our tour ended with breakfast today. We have an outdoor porch for the morning meal and it is so pleasant. The area is surrounded by flowering shrubs and there is a large cage with a beautiful Toucan. He is so friendly and enjoys being visited. Breakfast starts with orange juice, oatmeal or fruit. Then you can choose eggs and meat and three choices of breads. They also have French toast and pancakes. Everything is made to order. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are the drink choices.
We set off today with four others from our group to do some more exploring. We hired a driver and van and drove off the beaten track. Lots of dirt and gravel roads and beautiful vistas overlooking canyons. Since this is the rainy season everything is lush green with colorful flowers everywhere. We stopped for lunch at the Jewish bakery. Jeff had corned beef on a bagel that he declared really good.
Back at the hotel we sat in the beautiful garden area and enjoyed the scenery. We were in an attached gazebo with comfy chairs, tables and a fireplace. It started to pour and we stayed dry and watched the rain soak the grounds. Afterwards a hummingbird appeared and posed for me. He hung around a long time flitting from branch to branch. I checked him out, a rufous tailed hummingbird. Medium size with a large red tail and green body. So pretty.
Back to our room for a nap. Dinner at 6:00 with several others. We taxied to The Rock, a restaurant that has all you can eat ribs on Thursdays. It was more upscale than we expected with large glass windows on every wall and beautiful gardens. I had pumpkin soup and a crusted salmon with risotto. Everyone else had the ribs which they thought were very good. A pleasant evening.
Back at the hotel we packed for our trip tomorrow to Bocas de Toro. About 8:00 we started to hear music and yelling. There is some sort of celebration going on in the square, a few blocks from us. It is now midnight and still going strong. OMG!
