My Old Kentucky Home
We left Georgia this morning and arrived in Kentucky for the night around 5 pm. An interesting day and pretty scenery. We passed through Chattanooga which sits in a bowl surrounded by mountains and covered with smog. Purchased gas and spent $188. to fill half our tank. Started noticing big bugs splatting on the windshield and realized they are cicadas. Must be the seven year cycle. We ended up with two of them in the RV and took a picture. Ziggy was excellent again and Jeff took her photo sitting on her bed and enjoying the ride. At one point Jeff noticed that the Garmin GPS wasn't working and we stopped off to get a new one and have lunch. Later he saw that the battery in the Acura was dead and needed a part to fix it. We stopped at Camping World in Nashville and had quite an adventure. It was about 91 degrees again and we pulled into their lot and it was being repaved. We followed the driveway around to the back and realized that we could not turn around. So poor Jeff had to unhook the car and then it took a long time to charge the battery while we sat and sweltered. Finally Jeff was able to start the car and we turned around, reattached the car and left. After that it was a pleasant ride through Tennessee and into Kentucky. We're staying at a campground just south of Paducah and near the Kentucky Dam on the Tennessee River. Jeff is outside in the heat fixing the car and hopefully that will be it for repairs. Every day is a good adventure.

One!
Day One: We left Sun City at 11:30 am and drove for a few hours. When we left it was 91 degrees. We passed through Atlanta after 5 pm and got to our campground at Lake Allatoona in time to eat dinner, take a walk and relax. A nice large site with shade trees on a huge lake. Ziggy was an excellent traveler today. She spent most of the day lying on her bed between our seats and she wasn't on a leash, but she didn't realize that.

It Takes Two...
Two Days until our trip. Yesterday we started loading the RV and selecting clothes and things to take. Trying to travel light, but that is just not in my vocabulary. Jeff gave me my anniversary present yesterday (our anniversary is in October) and it is a new camera! A 24X zoom so I can take pictures of animals real far away. So exciting and I will learn to use it as we drive out west. He gave me a tripod also, I am ready to go.

Do You Want To Know A Secret?
Jeff and I went to a radio taping of Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! tonight in Charleston. It was a two hour ride each way and well worth it. It is one of our favorites on NPR radio every Saturday morning and we listen to the podcast too and laugh again. Guests tonight were Tom Bodett, Adam Felber and Faith Salie in addition to host, Peter Sagal and best annoucer ever, Carl Kasell. The program calls it NPR's Oddly Informative News Quiz.
Just a few days until we leave for Alaska. Winding down here and starting to put together supplies and clothes to take in the RV. The weather here is gorgeous and hot. We've had no rain for weeks and all the lagoons and streams are drying up. We'd be happy to share some of the flooding river water in the midwest. Good news is going to the pool in the afternoons to cool off.
Yesterday was Senior Fitness Day and I did Zumba at 7:30 am and then aerobics all at outside classes. Lots of fun and got my picture in the newspaper - I'm in the teal shirt.

Baby Face
Is this the cutest face? The little gecko was hanging on our drainpipe and actually posed for me. Adorable!

Happy Talk
Back at Parris Island and only three participants today. The marine on the right graduates this week and the recruit in the middle has just begun his training. The recruit on the left is halfway through and comes to services every week. Still a wonderful experience for us as we enjoy meeting these fine young men and women.

A Little Help From My Friends
Jeff and I attended and helped at the Bluffton Self Help BaSH. This auction raised funds for this wonderful non-profit which gives free food and clothing to the needy. I was on the committee and Jeff is a regular volunteer fixing their computers.

So Long, It's Been Good to Know You
Brian was here and now has gone home. We loved our few days together and savored every minute. We took in a chorus concert at Sun City and a show at the Savannah Theatre. Brian and I went to a chamber music concert in Beaufort and each event included a lunch or dinner. We also took long walks, shopped, talked and even played dominoes.
